Composite decking and timber maintenance, what you need to know

No doubt after installing your low maintenance composite decking, your intention is to keep your maintenance time to a minimum. However no decking material is "no maintenance", no matter how much we want or expect it to be.

All decking requires some cleaning effort to maintain their good looks especially if your deck receives the level of abuse our family and friends dish out to ours. I'm sure the team of kids manage to put more mayonnaise and tomato sauce on the deck than on their dinner plate sometimes. Hence this article on specifically how to remove stubborn grease and olive oil stains from composite decking.

When it comes to your composite decking, you can be very pedantic or relaxed about how you expect it to age over time. Rule #1 - if you want your deck to look like and interior floor surface, treat it like one. If you drop you steak on your carpet, you don't wait until the next day to clean it. Like wise for your brand new composite decking.

1) Most importantly, get onto the stain as soon as you can.

Once the stain has set, the task of removing is more difficult. Remove any excess oil.

2) Fill a bucket with HOT water and liberally wet the effected area.

Apply some concentrate dish washing liquid directly to the effected area. The idea is to break down the structure of the oil so it can then be rinsed away by the water.

3) Use a stiff plastic bristle brush (part of the seven trust decking care kit) and scrub the deck.

Always follow the wood grain finish of the plank to prevent scratching the surface.

4) Keep adding HOT water and keep scrubbing.

5) Keep adding HOT water and keep scrubbing.

6) Tip the rest of the bucket of water to rinse to thoroughly remove all detergent.

7) For stubborn oil stains,

use an seven trust revitalizing brush to bring as per the instructions included with the brush. Power washing is not recommended. For the time and effort to get it set up, you can get better results using more detergent and more scrubbing. Contact seven trust directly for directions on how to remove paint, stains, chainsaw oil and other super stubborn stains.

Warmth of holy Pu Lisi hints: Chuxue is admittedly beautiful, heat preservation needs to strengthen!
