contests. Final

Canadas Vasek Pospisil has usually just played a little doubles on the side throughout his tennis career. Discount Air Jordans Free Shipping . That will change now that hes a Wimbledon champion. Pospisil teamed with American Jack Sock for the first time this month and the results were staggering. They pulled off upset after upset at the All England Club and capped their stunning run by topping the best mens doubles team of all-time in the final. "We were kind of joking around about it a little bit when we decided to sign up -- that wed go for the title," Pospisil said Tuesday on a conference call. "Joking -- but actually believing in it a little bit. I think if we didnt believe we could do it I dont think wed be standing here with the trophy ... we definitely knew it was possible but we wouldnt put money on it." Pospisil, from Vancouver, and Sock are big hitters who used their strong service games and volley skills to their advantage at the Grand Slam event. Theyre young, tall and powerful and had no pressure as an unseeded duo. The final was a five-set thriller that lasted over three hours, as Pospisil and Sock beat top seeds and defending champions Bob and Mike Bryan of the United States 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. "We celebrated probably from the moment we got into the locker-room -- the champagne was flowing," Pospisil said. "We had a really great night with friends and family." Singles play will still be Pospisils primary focus but he plans to team with Sock for the rest of the season, including the U.S. Open and possibly the season-ending doubles championships. Pospisil lost his first-round singles match at Wimbledon before giving doubles his full attention. It didnt take long for him to develop some on-court chemistry with Sock. "It was just one of those things, we didnt even really practise or anything," Pospisil said. "The first time we hit was before our first-round match. I think we just got along really well and our personalities seemed to match really well. We had a lot of fun on the court. I think that was the main thing. "From the very first round we were just laughing and enjoying ourselves and trying not to take it too seriously but at the same time wanting to win." With Socks booming forehand and Pospisils aggressive net play, they quickly found their groove. They were pushed to five sets in the second round before knocking off eighth-seeded Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan. Second-seeded Alexander Peya of Austria and Brazils Bruno Soares fell in a four-set quarter-final. In the semifinal, Pospisil and Sock surprised fifth seeds Leander Paes of India and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic in straight sets before they denied the Bryan twins their 16th Grand Slam doubles title and 99th overall. Pospisil and Sock saved four match points in the final set before the American hit a winner down the line for the victory. "Our games fit extremely well, they complemented each other really well the whole tournament," Pospisil said. "Our personalities by the end of two weeks, we pretty much went from not knowing each other too well at all to being best friends." They were the first team since 2000 (Lleyton Hewitt and Max Mirnyi) to win a Grand Slam title in their first tournament together. It was the first time a Canadian had played in the Wimbledon mens doubles final since 2009, when Torontos Daniel Nestor teamed with Nenad Zimonjic to win their second All England Club title. Pospisil and Sock first broached the subject of teaming up about six weeks ago, but Pospisil didnt know if hed be able to play due to a nagging back injury. The Canadian was pain-free in the days leading up to Wimbledon and they gave it a go. "The timing was pretty amazing," Pospisil said. "It was a pretty fortunate pairing that we got together and that he decided to take that chance. I think I told him like 50-50 at the time but it was probably more like 60-70 per cent that I wouldnt play. "It just ended up working out very well." It was the first Centre Court appearance for both the 24-year-old Pospisil and Sock, whos 21. Sock has had Grand Slam doubles success in the past, teaming with fellow American Melanie Oudin to win the mixed title at the 2011 U.S. Open. Pospisils previous best Grand Slam doubles results were round of 16 appearances last year with Ottawas Jesse Levine at Wimbledon and with Nestor at the U.S. Open. The Canadian currently holds the No. 33 position in both the singles and doubles world rankings. Sock is ranked 31st in doubles and 76th in singles. Wholesale Jordan Shoes From China . He even addressed his group of relievers Sunday morning. Dustin McGowan made those worries a nonfactor, at least for a day. McGowan pitched three-hit ball for seven innings, Colby Rasmus hit a grand slam and Melky Cabrera added a two-run homer as the Blue Jays beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2. Cheap Air Jordan Sale . The game marks the rare occasion when two homegrown running backs, Jon Cornish of the Calgary Stampeders and Andrew Harris of the B.C. Lions, will start in the West Divisions battle for a Grey Cup berth.Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Rodney Stuckey scored a game-high 22 points, Roy Hibbert recorded a double-double, and the Indiana Pacers cruised past the New York Knicks 103-82 on Thursday. Hibbert totaled 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who snapped their three-game home losing streak by dominating the second and third quarters. Solomon Hill and David West each scored 10 points for an offense that connected on 53 percent of their shots and owned a 50-26 edge in the paint. Not even a surprise start by Carmelo Anthony could keep the Knicks close. The All-Star forward was questionable on the second game of a back-to-back and finished with 18 points, but New Yorks defense did not duplicate its efforts over the past two weeks. During a five-game stretch that saw them go 4-1, the Knicks allowed just 91.4 points per game -- more than 10 points fewer than their season average. They reverted back to their sieve-like ways against the Pacers, who scored 67 points during the second and third quarters on 63 percent shooting. Final Score: Milwaukee 115, Orlando 100 Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Knight tallied 16 points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals and the Milwaukee Bucks ended a 10- year winless drought in Orlando with a 115-100 victory over the Magic. Jerryd Bayless led seven Bucks in double figures with 19 points. Khris Middleton and Jared Dudley added 17 apiece and John Henson posted 12 points and 11 rebounds in Milwaukees first win in Orlando since Dec. 29, 2004, a stretch that included 17 straight losses. The win is fitting considering the Bucks had won six of seven road games against Eastern Conference opponents coming in, and the Magic were mired in a six-game losing skid. Nikola Vucevic had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Victor Oladipo scored 21 points in the setback. Orlando also fell to 0-16 this season when allowing 100-plus points at home. Final Score: Memphis 99, Denver 69 Memphis, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Fresh off an All-Star snub, Zach Randolph continued to let his game speak for itself. And another double-double followed. Randolph had 15 points and 17 rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies routeed the Denver Nuggets 99-69 on Thursday night. Discount Jordans Free Shipping. It was Randolphs 11th straight double-double. Jeff Green netted 13 points, while Marc Gasol added 10 points and seven rebounds for Memphis, which has won eight of its last nine games since Green was traded to the Grizzlies from the Boston Celtics two weeks ago. Mike Conley, who was another snub on the Western squad, sat for a second consecutive game due to a wrist sprain. Kenneth Faried posted 10 points and seven boards for the Nuggets, who have dropped eight of their last nine contests. Final Score: LA Lakers 123, Chicago 118 (2-OT) Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Lakers spoiled Pau Gasols return to Staples Center. It turned out to be a lot harder than it shouldve been. Jordan Hill had 26 points and 12 rebounds as the Lakers defeated the Chicago Bulls 123-118 in double overtime on Thursday night. The Lakers squandered a 15-point second half advantage and a nine-point cushion late in regulation. Chicago didnt take it first lead until the early moments of the first overtime when Derrick Rose knocked down a 3-pointer at the 4:42 mark. Hill, though, sent the game into another extra session with a late jumper from the left wing in overtime and LA pulled away in the second OT. Gasol, who helped the Lakers win two NBA titles during his six-plus seasons in the City of Angels, received a standing ovation from the crowd following a video tribute during his introduction. Gasol then walked out to halfcourt and waved to the fans. The spectators were given T-shirts that said Thanks Pau on the front with a list of his accomplishments with the Lakers on the back. Gasol, whose tip-in tied the game at 98-98 with 11 seconds left in regulation, finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Wayne Ellington posted 23 points and five rebounds for the Lakers, who snapped a nine-game losing streak. Jimmy Butler netted a career-high 35 points to go with seven boards, while Joakim Noah pulled down 17 rebounds and dished out nine assists for Chicago, which had won three of its last four games coming in. Derrick Rose, who was 7-of-26 from the floor, poured in 17 points to go with six helpers in defeat. ' ' '
